Mermen's Minds

Somerset House in London is the hoarding where these nautical nightmares were projected in stone, the spray can not having been invented then....

A wry lady filmmaker noted that at the Royal College of Art ( some decades ago) if you wanted to work with slides ( photographic transparencies) you went to the Stained Glass department.

In medieval churches and e.g.guildhalls, there may be remains of incomplete glass windows which they display charmingly if surreally as collages. In these, the grey-brown steeple in the background is real but the other stuff is painting on glass, selected shards.

Wits End

from the Guardian obits 24 June 11

... a certain Grothendieck, who reckoned " a mathematical problem will solve itself when one has found by sufficient humble attentiveness exactly its right context and formulation."

Will all problems be solved by simply finding their perfect place and ways of expressing them??

Marcel Duchamp (approximately) " Any form is the same as another form, simply seem from a different angle in a different perspective"

or the book title (more evocative than the specifics of the actual book) "The Uses of Disorder"

A perfect plaice

Unwillingly to South London where the visit was repaid handsomely, by 1) an otherwise unremarkable cafe that played early 60's jazz, perfect for digesting scrambled eggs, and 2) there being a road called "Stillness Road", almost an oxymoron.
